This past week the XXII Winter Olympics officially kicked off in Sochi, Russia, with a breathtaking Opening Ceremony which featured a uniquely dazzling performance full of Russian history and culture. As always, the ceremony continued with its traditional Parade of Nations. Olympic athletes and coaches proudly entered the arena, and throughout the world fans celebrated the athletic prowess and fortitude of their nation’s top athletes. Half away across the world EF joyfully joined in.
Over the last two years EF has provided English language training to 25,000 athletes, volunteers, judges, and organizers as the Official Supplier of Language Programs for the XXII Olympic Winter Games. This program is a continuation of the successful English training that occurred in Beijing for the 2008 Summer Olympics.
In celebration of breaking down global language barriers and EF’s partnership with the Sochi Winter Olympics, EF employees had the opportunity to have their picture taken with an official Olympic torch.
The Olympic torch has long been familiar with the world leader in international education. Last October, EF’s North American CEO, Eddie Hult ran a leg of the torch relay in St. Petersburg, Russia, and in 2008 Eddie’s father and founder of EF, Bertil Hult ran with the torch in Guangzhou, China prior to the games in Beijing.
