Free time suggestions: Best places to eat in NYC

Mia Nguyen | December 4, 2018

new york city

Ah, New York City—one of the most multicultural cities in the world. With people from so many different backgrounds, it makes sense that there are such great food options. It can make choosing where to have lunch quite daunting for our tour groups! Here are a few restaurant suggestions, from EF to you.

Ellen’s Stardust Diner

Ellen’s Stardust Diner is located directly in Times Square and showcases some of New York City’s best upcoming talent. For students interested in Broadway and the Arts, this is a must-see. Their world-famous singing waitstaff all have dreams of performing on Broadway and are happily entertaining customers while they wait for their big break! The food is typical diner food—sandwiches, burgers, shakes, pasta salads, French fries, etc. This is the perfect place to grab a bite, sit back, and enjoy a show!

ramen

Ippudo

Ippudo arguably serves some of the best ramen in New York City. While Japanese ramen has a roughly 400-year history, this ramen brasserie opened in 1985 and is pretty close to perfection. (We suggest ordering a side of pork buns to top off your meal.)

roberta

Roberta’s Pizza

Roberta’s Pizza serves incredibly intricate pizza topped with various seasonings, cheeses, and greens. The chewy crust and flavorful sauce make these personal pan pizzas a fan favorite for EF travelers. The crowd at Roberta’s is large and loud, mimicking the hustle and bustle of New York City. Come for a classic New York slice!

Happy Bones

Happy Bones is a quaint coffee shop in the heart of Little Italy. This trendy, minimalist spot is known for top-notch espresso shots. Their menu includes hemp milk and other non-dairy options as well. If you’re in need of an extra ounce of energy come midday, this is the place to go.
